Uniform movie timings in the cinemas in Bangalore will come into effect on Friday with the State Government finally agreeing to the demands of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC). The new schedule that enables only four movie shows to be screened from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. comes along with eateries being allowed to be open till midnight.
Hitherto, there was no uniformity in screening of movies though in most cinemas, the shows ended at 10 p.m. The present timings were fixed 25 years ago under the instruction of the Police Department. The decision to extend the movie shows by an hour was taken at a meeting chaired here by Home Minister V.S. Acharya on Tuesday. Among those present at the meeting were Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari, FKCC president Jayamala and vice-president Sa. Ra. Govind.
Under the revised timings, the first show will start at 11.45 a.m., second at 2.30 p.m., third at 6.15 p.m. and the last show at 8.30 p.m. The last show should end at 11 p.m., though the deadline could be relaxed by a few minutes if the film was long. "For the benefit of film-goers, all hotels and eateries would remain open till midnight," the Police Commissioner said.
Though the decision was taken a long time ago, its implementation was postponed due to various reasons. "The new timings will also apply to multiplexes.
